I earned a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Psychology from the University of Mississippi as a first-generation student with a disability, then the Master’s in Leadership and Ph. D. in Higher Education Administration both from the Washington State University. I completed dissertation research while living and working in China for six years. I worked in higher education administration for 20+ years and global advanced manufacturing for a dozen years before joining the tenure-track faculty with Lamar University’s Educational Leadership doctoral program where I chaired over 20 doctoral dissertations.
After a bit more than three years there I joined the Core Research Methodology team at West Texas A & M University, where I also serve as a tenure-track faculty member. I conduct multi- and mixed-method research situated in an organizational institutionalism framework that draws from diverse academic fields including anthropology, economics, education, management, leadership, political science, psychology, and sociology.
Along the way, I’ve developed the following core competencies:
Online education. Developed and taught online coursework since 2007. Quality Matters Rubric certification since 2014. Consistently develop coursework that is evaluated at 100% by Quality Matters certified course evaluation professionals. Developed and taught coursework in Moodle, Canvas, and Blackboard LMS installations. Teach Foundations of Distance Learning doctoral course, annually. Program evaluator for Online Learning Consortium Accelerate national conference since 2019. Nominated for outstanding professor awards for online instruction at two universities (earned the top award once).
Student development, persistence, and retention. Led transformation of uninvolved international residence hall into a thriving and engaged community over three years. Led two residence halls (in two years) from last-applied-last-assigned halls to engaged communities with waiting lists for residents. Led a pilot project that retained over 78% of GED holders transitioning into college. Published theory-based retention model–student development theory guides professional practice. Let teams that increased retention and persistence at one technical college, two comprehensive community colleges, and an online university.
Assessment, Evaluation, Institutional Effectiveness, and Regional Accreditation. Led divisional assessment based on Council for Advancement of Standards (CAS) guidelines at two universities and three colleges. Student Affairs Assessment Certification attained through Student Affairs Assessment Leaders. Implemented Institutional Effectiveness (IE) structure at a comprehensive community college. Served on re-affirmation accreditation teams for Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE), North West Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU), and Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC); served on Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) steering committee. Navigated comprehensive community college off NWCCU’s warning status as interim CEO/president. I also was fortunate to work on reports for ACCJC as vice president for academic and student affairs at another community college.
Higher education law and reporting requirements. 11 years experience in student affairs/services administration. Filed the Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act (EADA) survey and supervised those responsible. Supervised and served as primary designated school official (PDSO) and DSO. Served as and supervised Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) keyholder. IPEDS Keyholder Certification attained through the Association of Institutional Research. Completed the Common Data Set (CDS) and supervised those responsible. Familiar with regulations, reporting, & training requirements for FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (sex discrimination), Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965. Completed annual performance reports (APR) and managed personnel in TRIO and Upward Bound programs. Managed National Student Clearinghouse student tracker.
Computer and Internet Technology. Expert in Linux and Microsoft operating systems and office applications. Managed network and IS functions at Oxford Wire. Managed IT and Web services for the Office of Student Affairs at WSU. Served as user consultant for numerous database applications. Managed FTE 10th day reporting to Olympia, WA at WSU for all campuses, statewide. Proficient with SAS, SPSS, & Minitab, and (learning by playing with) R-. Managed development of an Oracle® database that integrates with Banner®. Familiar with Banner®, Empower-SIS®, C-BORD®, Blackboard®, Canvas®, Moodle, and various other higher education products.
East Asian culture, Transnational Education (TNE) and International Student development. Eleven + years global (Japan & China) experience. Conversant in Mandarin and Japanese. Dissertation in Sino-U.S. transnational education; lived in China six years. Taught English as a Foreign Language (TEFL). Two years of research experience on Thai educational reform funded through a five-year U.S. Department of Education grant. Managed international residence hall and international family housing complex at two universities. Served as DSO and PDSO for SEVIS.
Career and Technical Education (CTE). 11 years experience in global advanced manufacturing. Secured and managed Perkins IV funds. Held state-level work-based learning position under a grant from the National Governor’s Association Policy Academy. Implemented industry-recognized credentials into CTE curriculum at a comprehensive community college. Co-facilitated several developing a curriculum (DACUM) sessions. Served state-level CTE roles in Idaho and Montana.
Consulting. I have served as a consultant in different settings, from advanced manufacturing to higher education. Typically I provide what some have said is ‘the best strategic advice any organization will experience’.

Normally, I’m intrigued by research design, organizational turnaround, and alignment with professional/international standards. I’ve facilitated development of 13 organizational strategic plans. Misty and I together have helped several organizations streamline their processes.
I am married to Misty; we are a consulting/training team who focus on organizational learning, organizational emotions, and organizational development. We work with executives to learn/develop/improve leadership traits and skills too. We have two adorable feline children, Squirt and Tiantian.
Our rates are competitive:
- One (either of us) for an organizational intervention session is billed at $1,100 per session;
- both of us together would be $1,850 per session*.
- Individual Rejuvi consulting sessions are billed at $1,350 per session*.
- * One session is defined as a working-day on-site with your organization.
- Individual executive consulting sessions in our areas of expertise are billed at $675 per hour.
- We also offer guidance for international students and parents who are interested in attending college/university in the United States. We will meet with you for free on Zoom for 30 minutes. After that the rate for either of us is $375 per hour.
